Two types of solar cookers

Type: Parabolic

A. The details of material used:

1. Stove surface: thin-typed cast-iron – 3mm

It is accurate in molding- not easy to damaged- easy to disassemble and transport.

2. The reflector: vacuum aluminum-plated

The reflecting capacity is strong, the heating efficiency is high and it’s convenient for repairing and changing.

3. Bracket: cast-iron

The framework of the principal axis of the cooker body is supported by the bar centre. It’s stable and reliable. It’s convenient to adjust at required angles.

In this kind of solar cooker you can boil water, stir-fry, deep-fry and so on. The solar energy is its fuel. It can be used to supply hot water or boiled water for tea. It also can be used to do the steamy disinfections with suitable steel wares.

C. Working principle

We select and design the revolving parabolic sunlight-withholding surface by combining the “draw-making method of 3-circle” and the thin-typed founding techniques, which guarantees the sunlight from different height and angles can reflect and collect at the bottom of stove effectively. All rays from parabolic curve reflect and concentrate at the ring where pot is placed. As the solar energy is clean and environmental-protected, the cooked food is not only delicious taste and beautiful seeing, but also is good for health. Invest once and you can get the long-term benefit.

D. Other Instructions

1-      As the temperature of the bright spot is very high, pay special attention not to let the bright spot move to human body or other objects to avoid body damage or setting fire on other objects.

2-      The solar cooker should be set in a place exposed to the sun and sheltered from the wind, so that the strong wind couldn’t damage the oven.

3-      When the reflective membrane is covered by dust, don’t wipe it with dry cloth. You may clean it with a bit detergent and, then wash it with clean water.  Small amount of dust doesn’t influence the normal function.

4-      When the solar cooker is not in use, turn the cooker’s back towards the sunlight to extend the life time of the reflective membrane.

5-      Use the utensils or pots with black bottom.(it could be blackened by black ink or smoke) to enhance the effect of absorbing heat.

6-      When heating water, be careful not to fill water to the top in order to avoid overflowing.

7-      The empty pot should not be placed on the solar cooker; otherwise the empty pot’s bottom will burnt out.

8-      The flammable objects, such as firewood or fuel, are forbidden to be placed around the solar oven to prevent fires accidents.

9-      During usage, children are forbidden to approach or shake the oven to avoid being burnt or injured.

10-   During usage, you should not look at the bright spot for a relative long time to protect the eyes from being injured.

Capacity: The actual capacity of solar water heater depends on number of persons living in a home & utilization of hot water. In Pakistan an average adult uses about 35Lt of warm water.

Pay Back Period:

With today’s tariff the pay back period of SRS Solar Water Heater is within 18 months. After which one can enjoy free hot water for rest of product’s life.


Types of Solar Water Heater:


1) Non Pressurized System:

If the flow in house is gravity based then non pressure solar water heating system is installed. The heating process takes place in a vacuum tubes collector, after which the hot water is stored in a well insulated water tank above the vacuum tubes. The hot water is obtained from the hot storage tank by connecting it to hot water pipe line. It consists of following main parts:

1)    Solar collector, either flat plate or evacuated collectors

2)    Insolated Water Tank

3)    Stand bye Electric Back up (In Advance Model)

4)    Digital Control (In Advance Model)

2) Pressurized Water Heater System:

If there is pump installed in the water lines of a home to get water from taps with pressure then pressurized solar water heater is used for hot water. It has a cupper pipe inside hot water storage tank. In non pressure solar water is used for pressurized lines then hot water will mix with cold water in storage tank and therefore will not deliver hot water. In pressurized system the storage tank water does not mix with the hot water required by the user. The water in cupper coil is heated due to heat exchange between fresh water coming in the coil and the hot water stored in the insulated tank.


As shown in previous figure the water in the tank will be heated by vacuum tubes. The heat from tank water will be transferred to the water inside the copper coil which will be connected to the hot water line.

2) Split Solar Water Heating System:

In this system the solar collectors are mounted on the roof top, while the hot water tank is placed near the load i.e feed water tank or outside bathroom. There is a copper coil inside the 300lt~1000lts water tank in which hot water circulates. It has a temperature sensor on the outlet of collectors. When water is heated in collector the sensor gives signal to controller which switches on the circulating pump and hence circulation of hot water starts. The cold water in tank is heated up with this circulating hot water in the copper coil heat exchanger.

If the distance between load and solar hot water is quite large than the split solar system is recommended. This system can also be used for pressurized taps.

All the systems are backed up by electric heater for cloudy days.

2-   Sun Pipe: In this technology there is a dome on the roof or on side of wall where sun light strikes. It collects light while reflect infra red radiation which produces heat. The light is carried to the required rooms through sun pipes which has reflecting inner surface. The light is dispersed in the room by diffusers available in different shapes.
