As the world's population increases from around 6.5 billion today to 9 billion by 2050 the demand for energy will continue to grow - that too at a faster pace, because many countries are entering an energy intensive phase of development.
On the other hand, it is recognised that supplies of relatively easy to extract oil and natural gas will not keep pace with our growing demand and environmental stresses are continuing to mount.In order to reconcile these issues we will have to resort to increasing the use of renewable energy in our energy basket and simultaneously implement effective energy conservation measures.
